Review: Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore

Bette Midler dominates Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore. Midler’s monumental talent is on display and makes the sequel to Cats and Dogs somewhat intriguing.

Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore is a film that knows its audience — kids! Anyone over the age of 12 may have reservations about a film that shows us what our cats and dogs do after we leave the house. But, within that framework, Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore is clever and yes, cute. I mean, who doesn’t think cats and dogs are cute?

But is it worth your hard-earned dollars? If bringing the young kids: Absolutely yes.

James Marsden plays Diggs, a K-9 cop who is caged after one too many mess ups. Christina Applegate is Catherine, a cat who sees the benefit of working with her doggone friends in order to keep the balance where dogs are “man’s best friends” and cats are content to wait to deem you worthy of their attention.

The plot of Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore is pointless when it comes to the appeal of the film. But, what does stand above all else after witnessing the family film is the power of Bette Midler. Regardless of whether she is singing her heart out as the Divine Miss M or providing the voice for a hairless cat whose insecurities drive her to destroy the household pet balance in the world, Bette Midler is nothing less than mighty.

Bette Midler has a field day with her role as the title character in Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore. Simultaneously bouncing between being a house cat to 30 Rock‘s Jack McBrayer and being the evil villain at the heart of the film, Bette Midler’s characterization of Kitty Galore is nothing short of tantalizingly terrible in the most terrific of ways.

Is Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore the best of the films released July 30? No, but for those seeking an escape from the world, it is leagues beyond Dinner for Schmucks and a few notches below Charlie St Cloud.

If the demographic is Bette Midler fans or parents looking for some innocent family fun, Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore is right in your wheelhouse.
