The Gulf Is Back invites America to join the party!

The CW special, The Gulf Is Back, premiered Friday and aptly kicks off the fun with Lonestar’s Party Heard Round the World. The tribute to the people of Mississippi and the Gulf region was indeed a rocking good time, but it is so much more than that.

Locals in Mississippi and the Gulf region knows the hardship of rebuilding after catastrophes like Katrina and the Gulf Coast oil spill first hand, but there are two sides to every tragedy: Those on the frontlines, who have to pick themselves up, dust themselves off and move forward, and those of on the outside, who are looking for ways to show support.

Unfortunately, in watching tragedies unfold from other parts of the country, we often get mired down in the endless, heartbreaking footage. It’s hard to keep watching, hard to imagine how we can possibly help and most pointedly, hard to ever get those images of destruction and oil slicks out of our heads.

The Gulf Is Back offers an answer, not to mention a chance to get down with David Hasselhoff, Ricky Skaggs, Lonestar, Bo Bice, Taylor Hicks, Ace Young, Kyle and Chris Massey, Terri Clark and Drake Bell.

The one-hour special offers viewers a glimpse of a rejuvenated Mississippi and Gulf Coast region. With BB King, Shannon Elizabeth, Dean Cain, Jimmy Buffett, Brian McKnight and The Hoff as their guides, America gets to swim, fish, golf and glide across the delta in a speedboat – and it looks nothing like we expect it to.

The Gulf Is Back reminds us there’s a better way to help then just sending over good vibes or even good money. It invites us to pack up the crew and use that money we’ve been saving for a vacation to sample some southern hospitality.

As Mississippi native Morgan Freeman says in the CW special, which airs Friday, August 27 at 8 pm: “The Gulf is open for business!”
