Move to the Groove founder surprised by DWTS flash mob

Move to the Groove founder Rhex Arboleda was surprised by some of the Dancing with the Stars cast Sunday night on ABC’s Extreme Home Makeover. Why were they there to help?

Dancing with the Stars pros usually move to the groove on Monday nights, but on Sunday they stopped by Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to help a family in need.

Teacher Rhex Arboleda created Move to the Groove, a program that encouraged kids to avoid obesity through dance. Despite his local celebrity, Arboleda and his family lived in a small, run-down house with little room for his five children to play.

DWTS flash mob

Ty Pennington and the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition crew are known for making a big splash with their announcements. This time, Pennington and the crew enlisted the help of Dancing with the Stars dancers Derek Hough, Chelsie Hightower, Mark Ballas, Tony Dovolani and Anna Trebunska to help.

While at a local farmer’s market, one of Arboleda’s songs came over the loudspeaker and a flash mob of 100 performers started dancing to the beat. Once he recognized his song, Arboleda knew something was up. That’s when they learned the good news: They were getting a new house.

Dancers trade toe shoes for work boots

Hough, Ballas and the rest of the DWTS dancers helped tear down and rebuild the Arboleda family home. Of course, it looked amazing after it was finished — complete with a dance studio in the basement and donated supplies for his Move to the Groove project.

What’s next?

Arboleda received more than a new house – he received a ton of publicity for his project. Will his Move to the Groove anti-obesity program spread across the country? Let’s hope so!
