Introducing the American Country Awards: Meet the ACA nominees

The American Country Awards have announced their nominees, but you may be asking: What are the American Country Awards?

Try to keep up with us on this one. You know how there are the Grammys and the American Music Awards? Well, country music wasn’t satisfied with a few categories in the bigger award shows, so they created the ACMs, the CMAs and the CMT Awards.

The A is for American or Awards, the C is for Country, the M is for Music and the letters move around in a few different orders. Knowing that, do you want to guess what the new ACAs celebrate?

The newly minted American Country Awards are kind of like the People’s Choice Awards, where all the winners are decided by fan votes.

If only Twilight put out a country album.

Voting begins today and continues through November 8, but the show, set to air on Fox, doesn’t take place until December 6 when you can expect to see all the usual suspects from the CMAs, ACMs and CMTs walking the ACA’s Las Vegas red carpet.

Going through the list of nominees (which you’ll find below), we noticed something we think is pretty awesome — most of this year’s biggest marquee names belong to women: Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Sugarland (technically they’re a duo, but Jennifer Nettles is the lead singer), Jewel and, of course, Miss Reba McEntire.
