ABC comedy rocks with The Middle, Cougar Town and Modern Family

Long gone are “Must-see-Thursdays” on NBC. Sitcom fans these days can’t wait for ABC Wednesdays! We’ve got your preview of what’s to come tonight, October 20, on Better with You, The Middle, Cougar Town and Modern Family.

The Middle

First, at 8 pm, The Middle welcomes a new member into the Heck household in Foreign Exchange and things don’t go as Frankie (Patricia Heaton) had hoped.

Their Japanese exchange student Takayuki (Matthew Moy) has no interest in becoming part of the family and a battle over chores between Axl (Charlie McDermott) and Sue (Eden Sher) turns ugly.

Better with You

At 8:30 pm, in the Better with You episode Better with Little Buddy, Maddie (Jennifer Finnigan) and Ben (Josh Cooke) disagree over the best way to convince people to do what you want them to do; while expectant parents Mia (JoAnna Garcia) and Casey (Jake Lacy) get their first ultrasound. Freaked out by seeing the baby inside his fiance, Casey puts the kibosh on sex. Always ready to dole out advice, Maddie helps Mia seduce Casey. She also gives Ben tips on how to get off Vicky’s (Debra Jo Rupp) Vick’s picks of urgent links email list.

Modern Family

At 9 pm, Modern Family gets Unplugged. Claire (Julie Bowen) and Phil (Ty Burrell) are frustrated that their family spends all its time staring at phones, games and TVs instead of interacting, so the Dunphey clan has a contest to see who can stay unplugged the longest. Mitchell (Tyler Ferguson) and Cameron (Eric Stonestreet) face their own major parental challenge: Getting Lily into the right preschool.

Over at the Pritchett household, a barking neighborhood dog leaves Gloria (Sofia Vergara) and Manny (Rico Rodriguez) sleep deprived. When a fed up Gloria storms over to attack the problem, Jay (Ed O’Neill) and Manny may have reason to worry.

Cougar Town

Then at 9:30 pm, in the Cougar Town episode Alimony Checks, Andy (Ian Gomez) helps Bobby (Brian Van Holt) find financial freedom, but their efforts backfire. Uncomfortable with the sacrifices Bobby’s made, Jules (Courteney Cox) comes up with a plan to help him.

Meanwhile, a new version of the penny can game is sure to cause trouble for the cul-de-sac crew and Smith (Ryan Devlin) and Laurie (Busy Philipps) deal with breaking up.

The laughs start tonight at 8 pm on ABC.
