A sexy GQ photo shoot depicting your favorite Glee characters as sexpots has a parents group up in arms.
The current issue of GQ features a steamy photo shoot of your favorite Glee characters, played by Dianna Agron, Cory Monteith and Lea Michele, posing provocatively in their underwear. What’s the problem? Although the actors are all well into their 20’s, the characters they play are in high school. Are the photos an implied pedophilial dream?
The Parents Television Council sure thinks so.
“It is disturbing that GQ, which is explicitly written for adult men, is sexualizing the actresses who play high school-aged characters on Glee in this way,” PTC President Tim Winter said. “It borders on pedophilia. Sadly, this is just the latest example of the overt sexualization of young girls in entertainment.”
“With a demonstrated market of eager fans for an entertaining, musical-themed program like Glee, we wonder why the show’s creators feel the need for such graphic sexualization of women,” Winter continued. “Interestingly, the photos of the male character showed him wearing a shirt, tie and vest.”
One photo shows Lea Michele, supposedly in character as a high school student, posing in panties and thigh high socks while suggestively sucking a lollipop by her locker. In another, she is sitting spread eagle on a bench in the school locker room.
Agron’s shots are slightly less risque, showing the bubbly blond cheerleader in a miniskirt and belly shirt doing a pom pom routine.
GQ responded to the dustup by scoffing at the complaint. “The Parents Television Council must not be watching much TV these days and should learn to divide reality from fantasy,” Jim Nelson, editor in chief of GQ, said in a statement. “As often happens in Hollywood, these ‘kids’ are in their twenties. Cory Monteith’s almost 30! I think they’re old enough to do what they want.”
