10 Winter movie must-sees

From the return of the Fockers and Harry Potter to promising remakes of Tron and True Grit, stay tuned for a winter of movie must-sees for 2010 and early 2011.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1

Release Date: Nov. 19th, 2010

Starring: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint

This may be the darkest Harry Potter yet, with Harry, Hermione and Ron fighting against Lord Voldemort and the army of death eaters – all coming for Hogwarts. Part two is slated to be released in July 2011. See below to watch the official trailer.

The Tourist

Release date: Dec. 10, 2010

Starring:Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp, Paul Bettany

Starring Hollywood heavyweights Angelina and Johnny, this movie is practically a guaranteed success! The plot sounds interesting, as well. A troubled American (Depp) travels to Italy to soothe his broken heart. He meets Elise (Jolie) and trouble ensues.

Tron: Legacy

Release date: Dec. 17th

Starring: Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde, Jeff Bridges

If you loved the 1982 version of TRON, you will love this fast-paced modern version in which Jeff Bridges returns as the computer programmer Flynn. It is shot in 3D and features a soundtrack by French music producers Daft Punk.

Little Fockers

Release date: December 22, 2010

Starring: Ben Stiller, Teri Polo, Robert De Niro

The Fockers and the Byrnes family are back in the third installment of this hit franchise. With two twin Fockers running around, male nurse Greg (Stiller) continues to be tested by his father-in-law, Jack (DeNiro). Barbra Streisand, Owen Wilson and Jessica Alba all make appearances in Little Fockers.

Black Swan

Release date: Dec. 1, 2010

Starring: Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, Vincent Cassel

Darren Aronofsky directs this dark psychological thriller in which Portman stars as a ballerina in a twisted rivalry for the role of Swan Queen. Oscar buzz is already surrounding this film!

 

True Grit

Release date: Dec. 25, 2010

Starring: Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin

The Coen Brothers have re-made this classic movie, originally starring John Wayne, for today’s generation. This Western has a stellar cast, with Bridges playing US Marshall Rooster Cogburn.

 

The Fighter

Release date: Dec. 10, 2010

Starring: Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale, Amy Adams and Melissa Leo

Based on a true story, boxer “Irish” Micky Ward (Wahlberg) tries to win a historic title, with the help of his brother and trainer, played by Bale.

 

Tangled

Release date: Nov. 24, 2010

Starring: Mandy Moore, Zachary Levi, Donna Murphy

Walt Disney Pictures has decided to bring to the big screen the wonderful story of Rapunzel. This computer-animated movie is sure to be a big hit for kids and adults alike.

 

The Green Hornet

Release date: January 14, 2011

Starring: Seth Rogen, Cameron Diaz, Jay Chou and Christoph Waltz

Newspaper publisher by day, and masked superhero by night, Britt Reid (AKA The Green Hornet) fights crime in Los Angeles. His martial arts expert Kato is never far from his side. Based on the classic 1930s radio series created by George Trendle.

 

Fair Game

Release date: November 5, 2010

Starring:  Naomi Watts, Sean Penn, Ty Burrell

Based on a true story, Watts stars as CIA agent Valerie Plame, whose name was leaked by the Bush administration in an attempt to discredit her husband (Penn) who said the intelligence wasn’t there to justify invading Iraq.
