Lil Wayne released from prison

Lil Wayne is no longer a resident of prison. News is breaking that Lil Wayne has been freed from Rikers Island jail.

According to an announcement made on Thursday, Lil Wayne is tasting sweet freedom after his departure from Rikers Island jail. His release comes just eight months after the freestyle rapper was incarcerated on gun charges.

In order to celebrate his homecoming, it’s reported those closest to Lil Wayne, aka Dwayne Carter Jr., are throwing him a welcome home blowout in Miami.

Back in October of 2009, Lil Wayne pleaded guilty to attempted weapon possession. The performer came clean and fessed up that he was housing a loaded, semiautomatic 40-caliber gun on his tour bus after finishing a Manhattan concert.

Lil Wayne gave fans a glimpse of what life was like for him behind bars through Weezythanxyou.com and reached out to fans Tuesday from his cell. “I was never scared, worried nor bothered by the situation,” he told fans.

Lil Wayne didn’t waste his time sitting in his cell sulking. He used his time wisely, keeping his creative juices flowing to create new material. He boldly released his album, I Am Not a Human Being, while behind bars and watched it climb the charts from the comfort of his cell. The album went to number one on the Billboard 200 chart in October.
