Kanye West and George Bush kissed and made up in separate Today show spots.
The free world is safe again after Kanye West and George W. Bush buried the hatchet.
Kanye West told Matt Lauer of Today that he regrets saying Bush “doesn’t care about black people” in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
“I would tell George Bush: In my moment of frustration, I didn’t have the grounds to call him a racist,” West said. “I believe that in a situation of high emotion like that, we as human beings don’t always choose the right words.”
In his new memoir Decision Points, Bush called Kanye’s statement the lowest point of his presidency and later told Lauer Kanye disgusted him — but he has accepted Kanye’s mea culpa.
“I appreciate that,” Bush told Lauer in a separate Today segment. “It wasn’t just Kanye West who was talking like that during Katrina. I cited him as an example.”
“I’m not a hater. I don’t hate Kanye West,” Bush added. “But I was talking about an environment in which people were willing to say things that hurt. Nobody wants to be called a racist, if in your heart you believe in the equality of race.”
Of course, who knows how sincere Kanye actually is: Immediately after his interview was taped he tweeted that Matt Lauer “tried to force my answers. It was very brutal, and I came there with only positive intent.”
