Private Practice: What happens next

Charlotte was thrown into a hospital room last week on Private Practice. This week, she emerges battered, bruised and stoic as ever. The rest of Oceanside Wellness tries to come to terms with her assault, but they don’t actually have the full story.

It’s easy to see that Charlotte (KaDee Strickland) has taken a serious beating, but only Addison (Kate Walsh) knows the extent of the damage done during last week’s vicious attack on Private Practice. In spite of Addie’s offers of support and medical advice, Charlotte remains closed off and orders her to keep quiet about the rape.

The secret

“You’re going to see how long Charlotte can live with this secret,” Strickland previewed to TV Guide. “Obviously, people are going to do some adding up. She can’t keep it under wraps, and the truth will set her free. Picking up the pieces after her world’s been shattered is what you’re going to see for the rest of the season for her.”

Needless to say, keeping mum won’t be easy for Addie, who may slip up and tell Sam (Taye Diggs), but the strong, silent and bitchy act isn’t working for Charlotte, either. The tough as nails doc is showing clear signs of post traumatic trauma, including nightmares.

A concerned Cooper (Paul Adelstein) turns to Violet (Amy Brenneman), who has survived her own battle with violence, and Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) offers to take Charlotte to a sobriety meeting. Ultimately, it’s Sheldon (Brian Benben) who may be able to help Charlotte survive this brutal sexual assault.

A changing Charlotte

“The feeling of helplessness for every individual in Charlotte’s life comes up because there is nothing they can do to erase it and there was nothing they could do to prevent it,” Strickland said.

“You’ll see in Charlotte and Cooper’s relationship that he is a different person, as well, after this. You’re really going to see us now explore intimacy. A lot of times, relationships don’t survive, but Shanda-land is a very special place to be and you can see people survive all kinds of trauma, so I’m looking forward to seeing where we end up.”

The What Happens Next episode of Private Practice airs tonight, November 11, at 10 on ABC.

Private Practice star Kate Walsh has a new perfume and is proud to partner with SheKnows as a guest blogger. She’s given us a video vignette — check it out!
