The family of soul legend Aretha Franklin confirm that the singer is battling cancer. Read on to find out more about her condition and what others are saying about her diagnosis.

Fans of the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin were concerned last week when the singer underwent a mysterious surgery. No one would comment on the reason for the procedure, and now we know why: Aretha Franklin has cancer.

Franklin’s family confirmed the scary and sad news, according to MyFox Detroit. Her family says that the 68-year-old Franklin is doing “OK,” though they didn’t confirm what type of cancer she’s battling.

National Enquirer: It’s Pancreatic

The National Enquirer is reporting that Franklin is suffering from Pancreatic cancer, which has a five to 10 percent survival rate. These reports are unconfirmed, so we cannot confirm that’s what Franklin is battling. However, the National Enquirer has been correct on the cancer diagnosis of other stars. Let’s just hope they’re really wrong on this one.

Aretha Franklin: High spirits

Franklin released a statement in high spirits after her surgery last week.

“The surgery was highly successful. God is still in control. I had superb doctors and nurses whom were blessed by all the prayers of the city and the country. God bless you all for your prayers! — The Queen of Soul, Ms. Aretha Franklin.”

Here’s hoping more good news in on the way for the Queen of Soul.
