MTVTeen Mom star Amber Portwood pleaded not guilty to charges that she beat up her former fiance. Does this young mom need help, or a wake-up call in the form of jail time?
Time to face the music, Amber Portwood. MTV’s Teen Mom star was in an Indiana courtroom this morning to face charges stemming from filmed attacks on her former fiance Gary Shirley.
Portwood, 20, pleaded not guilty to charges of felony domestic battery and felony child neglect. She was arrested in conjunction with the charges and is being held on $5,000 bond, though she’ll likely be released this afternoon, according to E! Online.
Amber Portwood: Troubled Teen Mom
Portwood’s blow-out fights with Shirley were featured prominently on the second season of Teen Mom. MTV crews filmed the reality star punching her former fiance several times over the summer months. It wasn’t until those episodes were broadcast on MTV that Indiana authorities started their investigation.
She is not allowed to see daughter, Leah, or Shirley as a condition of her bail.
“There will be a protective order in place to protect the victim of the offense,” a Madison County, Indiana, sheriff spokeswoman said.
Portwood’s future on the popular MTV show is unknown, though cameras were following her as late as last week. MTV has not commented on Portwood or her future on Teen Mom.
Portwood faces up to three years in jail and a $10,000 fine if she is convicted of her charges. It’s not looking so good for the troubled mom, especially with the solid video proof.
