Award season marches on with the stars showing off their most fashionable duds at the Golden Globes.
As always, some stars glittered, and some collapsed under the weight of their fashion faux pas into sinking black holes of sartorial suckitude. Here are our picks for the best and worst dressed stars at the 2011 Golden Globe Awards.
Worst dressed
Gabourey Sidibe
Oh honey, no. I don’t care who you are or what your measurements — you do not wear the bedspread from Mariah Carey’s guest room to the Golden Globes.
Angelina Jolie
While it is refreshing to see Morticia — er, Angelina Jolie — wear something other than a drab neutral on the red carpet, Joan Collins is probably livid that the security system on her Dynasty costume closet failed.
Helena Bonham Carter
The eccentric Ms. Carter strikes again. The dress is a disaster of two different floral patterns and three different fabrics, paired with mismatched shoes. Sort of makes Bjork seem boring.
Natalie Portman
Where did Natalie Portman find this stash of hideous maternity dresses she’s been sporting lately? Here she ruined what would have been a perfectly lovely pink gown by sticking a giant red sequined flower across the top. It’s almost as unfortunate as the sex story she told in the same breath as talking about her grandma during her acceptance speech.
Emma Stone
Zzzzzzzzzzzz… Oh sorry, I fell asleep while looking at this dress because Emma Stone’s look is so incredibly boring. Angelina Jolie owns three of this same gown, all in black.
Julianne Moore
This mess of a gown may have been salvageable if Julianne Moore ripped off that single unfortunate mutton chop sleeve and actually ironed it before leaving the house.
Anne Hathaway
Expect to see Anne Hathaway and C3PO in an eHarmony success story commercial any day now. He’s totally gonna look up her profile tonight after seeing her in that getup.
Michelle Williams
Vintage fashion is one thing. Wearing your aunt’s bridesmaid gown from 1968 is quite another. Michelle Williams has had some stunning red carpet looks. This is not one of them.
Best dressed
Halle Berry
Halle Berry’s black gown was anything but basic. She took sexy to a whole new level in this hot little Nina Ricci number. Too hot? No such thing when you’ve got a body like that.
Jane Krakowski
Attention Natalie Portman: This is what a beautifully-dressed pregnant woman looks like. 30 Rock‘s Jane Krakowski is glowing in a drapey blue gown that shows a little leg.
Elisabeth Moss
Emerald green was the color of the night, and no one wore it better than Mad Men‘s Elisabeth Moss. Her silk Donna Karan gown had beautiful tucks and pleats, lending interest and curves to her otherwise boyish figure.
Jennifer Lopez
The fashion police may disagree, but I really kind of love Jennifer Lopez‘s gown. It is gorgeously draped, flows beautifully at the hemline and the capelet — which is being mocked by some — is a lovely way to modestly cover up a bit and brings just the right amount of bling to an otherwise plain dress. The outfit gets an A from me, but her highly Botoxed, immobile face? Not so much.
Olivia Wilde
Olivia Wilde doesn’t just have the whole world at her fingertips, she has the whole universe. The Tron star’s Marchesa gown glitters like the night sky sprinkled with sparkling stars. Simply breathtaking.
Sofia Vergara
Aye carumba, Sofia Vergara is a hot tamale in this fuchsia Vera Wang gown. In fact, she looks so good that her totally tactless tweets after she lost Best Supporting Actress to Jane Lynch are almost easy to forget. Almost.
Mila Kunis
Another stunning emerald number, this time on Black Swan star Mila Kunis. Her crinkly Vera Wang was softly dramatic, stealing no spotlight from that gorgeous face of hers. Michael Kelso, eat your heart out.
