The King’s Speech led the Academy Award nomination pack with 12 nominations. Also earning top nominations were The Fighter, The Social Network and True Grit.
The 83rd Academy Award nominations are the biggest nods of this year’s award season and SheKnows was up early to cover it all for you. Academy Award winner Monique helped announce the lucky flicks and stars that will battle it out at this year’s Academy Awards on February 27 including The King’s Speech and The Social Network.
The King’s Speech leads this year’s Academy Award nominees with 12 nominations. The Colin Firth-led film will go up against the likes of Black Swan and The Fighter for Best Film.
The 10 movies nominated for Best Film also include a few interesting names like the animated movie Toy Story 3 and Winter’s Bone. The Social Network is perhaps the odds-on favorite but with a recent Producers Guild win, The King’s Speech could take home the Oscar.
In the acting category, the expected Colin Firth will go head-to head with Academy Award co-host James Franco and The Social Network’s Jesse Eisenberg for Best Actor. Javier Bardem surprisingly rounds out the group for his role in Biutiful. Christian Bale picked up his Best Supporting Actor nod for The Fighter while Geoffrey Rush represents for The King’s Speech.
The ladies of the silver screen were pretty much a given — Natalie Portman, Annette Bening, Jennifer Lawrence, Michelle Williams and Nicole Kidman all picked up nominations for Best Actress. Many believe this will be Portman’s year for her role in Black Swan. Supporting nods went to Melissa Leo and Amy Adams for The Fighter, while young star Hailee Steinfeld got her first nomination for True Grit.
