Kristen Bell joins Don Cheadle in Showtime project

Veronica Mars and Heroes alum Kristen Bell is heading back to TV! Bell has signed on to Showtime’s dark comedy House of Lies, alongside Don Cheadle, Dawn Olivieri, Josh Lawson, Glynn Turman and Donis Leonard Jr.

Kristen Bell (You Again) has joined House of Lies, Showtime’s half-hour project inspired by Martin Kihn’s tell-all book House of Lies: How Management Consultants Steal Your Watch and Tell You the Time.

“This show is a comedy about management consultants that takes a very subversive and timely look at how big business really operates in this country,” David Nevins, President of Entertainment at Showtime, told SheKnows at the TCA press tour.

With creator, exec producer and writer Matthew Carnahan (Dirt), exec producer Jessica Borsicsky (Flash Forward) and Emmy-winning director Stephen Hopkins (Californication, 24) leading the way, business will get dirty on House of Lies.

The action centers around Don Cheadle (Iron Man 2) as Marty, “a highly successful, cutthroat consultant who is never above using any means (or anyone) necessary to get his clients the information they want,” according to network releases.

“The great thing about Showtime is I can fantasize about anybody right now,” Nevins said of casting. “Don Cheadle is one of those people. He’s a really cool and unexpected choice.”

Apparently, Nevins and the Showtime team also used the power of cable to land Kristen Bell! She’ll play Ivy-League grad Jeannie Van Der Hooven, a brilliant member of Marty’s team. Josh Lawson (Romantically Challenged) and Ben Schwartz (Undercovers) are also on staff at Marty’s consulting firm.

Dawn Olivieri (True Blood, Heroes) signed on earlier this year as Marty’s top competitor. She plays Monica, Marty’s pill-popping ex-wife who owns the number one consulting firm. Donis Leonard Jr. (The Fresh Beat Band) plays Marty’s young son and Glynn Turman (In Treatment) plays Marty’s psychoanalyst father.

Production is set to start this month in L.A. and New York.
