In Just Go With It, Adam Sandler plays Danny, a plastic surgeon suffering from a broken heart while Jennifer Aniston portrays his assistant Katherine. Just Go With It has moments of romance, but according to Aniston, it is “a bold faced comedy.”
Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler sat down recently to talk about their first pairing on screen after two decades of friendship without ever appearing together.
The story of Just Go With Itcenters on Sandler’s Danny, who…oh, let’s let Jennifer give us the scoop!
“This movie is about a guy who is kind of heartbroken and betrayed at the altar. He ends up drowning his sorrows at a bar with his wedding band on and meets this beautiful young woman. They end up speaking and he tells her the story of what happened. She decides to make him feel better,” Aniston said.
After that first experience, Sandler’s character sees the wedding band as a plus when meeting women. “It’s a lie that’s working for him — having the ring on, playing up his left at the altar persona. He keeps wearing the band and keeps picking up girls. Then, it became a thing that he had to keep going.”
So why would Sandler’s character put on a persona of the married man in hopes that it works to pick up women? “Women think he’s harmless,” Sandler said.
But, what happens when Sandler actually meets a girl he cares about? Again, Aniston fills us in. “Then, he meets this lovely girl, who he actually falls for (Brooklyn Decker), but then Brooklyn finds the wedding band. She’s disgusted with him, as she should be.”
“Brooklyn Decker plays the woman he thinks he’s falling for pretty hard, but she thinks he’s married because of the ring. Enter fake wife over here,” he said and pointed to Aniston who smiles.
“I have to help save him from his web of lies,” Aniston said and laughed.
Sandler tells Decker that he is getting a divorce and immediately Decker’s character wants to meet the ex-wife. Enter Aniston’s assistant. As the false stories compound, the hilarity ensues. “This whole web of lies begins to create itself and a lot of fun ensues,” Aniston said.
Aniston welcomed the chance to show off her comedic chops again and according to the star, took the comedian Sandler to the mat a few times. Sandler agreed. “You were great in it,” Sandler added.
“I was just trying to keep up with you,” Aniston said.
“You passed me,” Sandler proudly stated.
“I passed?” Aniston asked.
“You won, no doubt about it,” Sandler said.
“You know why, it’s like a bike ride,” Aniston said. “You’re just riding, hanging back, and then suddenly, you charge!”
Sandler laughed.
Although there are romantic parts to it, Aniston stresses that this is an Adam Sandler movie and as such, prepare to laugh. “I don’t consider it a romance, even though there’s romance in it,” she said. “It’s just hysterical.”
“The romance gets in there,” Sandler added.
“It slips in, and it’s emotional too,” Aniston said. “But you’re laughing most of the time. And then, we got you! It’s the kind of movie that I love, which is not just one thing. It’s got comedy. It’s got romance. It’s got emotion. It’s for everybody!”
