Comedy Central announces first ever Comedy Awards

Comedy Central announced that they will air the first annual Comedy Awards with 30 Rock leading the nominations.

Tired of seeing all the Oscar awards given to dramatic films, Comedy Central and MTV Networks will air the first ever Comedy Awards.

Slated as “the first-ever multi-network, multi-platform, annual event dedicated to honoring and celebrating the world of comedy,” the Comedy Awards will air Sunday, April 10 on Comedy Central, Spike TV, TV Land, VH1, CMT and Nick at Nite.

The Comedy Awards will recognize achievement in “late-night comedy series” and “stand-up specials” — for which Ricky Gervais: Out of England 2 was nominated.

“It is an honor to be nominated for my stand-up at this, the first-ever the Comedy Awards,” Gervais said. “In 68 years time, I intend to host it and get it canceled.”

Other nominees include 30 Rock (seven nominations), The Office (four nominations), Modern Family (four nominations), as well as It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Eastbound & Down. The film category nominated the following movies with four nominations each: Easy A, Cyrus and Kick-Ass.

Nominees were chosen by the Comedy Awards’ Board of Directors, including Billy Crystal and Stephen Colbert, and winners will be chosen by members of the comedy community, such as producers, writers and directors. Check out the complete list of nominees here!
