Supercomputer Watson wins Jeopardy!

Watson, the supercomputer, has won the three-day Jeopardy match-up against Jeopardy‘s biggest winners, Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter.

In the cinematic battle of man vs. machine, usually the human prevails in a dramatic showdown to the end. But this isn’t the movies, it’s Jeopardy, and Watson, the supercomputer, kicked Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter’s butts!

In the three nights of competition, it was never that close as Watson beat out former champs Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter with a grand total of $77,147 for a grand prize of $1 million that will go to charity. Ken Jennings managed to pull in an overall total of $24,000 while Brad Rutter scored $21,600. The former champs won prizes of $300,000 and $200,000. They will each donate half of their prizes to charity as well.

The competition between the IBM supercomputer known as Watson and the two former Jeopardy contestants was taped last month. It managed to pull in Jeopardy’s highest rating in six years.

Let’s be honest, as you’re reading this you probably know someone who was glued to the TV for three days straight watching the computer and his voice box buzz in quicker than the humans. You probably even know someone surfing the Internet trying to find the results of the showdown. Well, now you can tell them. Watson rules Jeopardy.

Do you think Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter will request a rematch?
