American Idol picks five members of the top 24

American Idol season 10’s most recent episode had judges Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson making hard decisions as to who will make the top 24. Find out which five contestants made the cut — and who made Jennifer Lopez cry.

American Idolseason 10 showed contestants in Las Vegas performing Beatles songs as duos and trios. The top 40 then advanced to the next round in Los Angeles — where they were made to sing for their lives. Who made the cut — and who caused Jennifer Lopez to have an emotional breakdown?

The top five semifinalists were announced — with the remainder of the top 24 to be announced tonight.

Clint Jun Gamboa, the karaoke host who showed his mean side to 15-year-old Jacee Badeaux, made the cut, as did Naima Adedapo, the custodian at music festivals. Ashthon Jones and Haley Reinhart made the cut, as did rhinestone cowboy Paul McDonald.

Surprising eliminations included Chris Medina, who is currently caring for his fiance whose brain was injured in a car accident. He was let go after a disappointing performance of Coldplay’s Fix You. Jennifer Lopez had a teary breakdown while delivering the news.

Medina took the elimination in stride, thanking the judges for the opportunity. “Juliana’s more popular than I am,” he said.

“I don’t want to do this anymore,” Lopez cried as Tyler and Jackson tried to comfort her.

Ashley Sullivan, who got married in Las Vegas at the same chapel made famous by Britney Spears, was eliminated, as was Hollie Cavanaugh.

Stay tuned as we find out who else made the top 24 of American Idol season 10 tonight.
