Glee went down the sex road this week, but it didn’t push the envelope like it has in the past when it comes to in-your-face subjects.
Glee’s latest episode, Sexy, came right on the heels of its teen drinking exploration but it lacked the power we’re used to seeing from the envelope-pushing series.
Glee got in your face with its take on teen drinking and we had hoped they’d do it with the subject of teen sex, but they took it down a notch, which might have been the point — sex doesn’t have to be about drama and negativity.
Gwyneth Paltrow gets Sexy as Holly Holliday
Gwyneth Paltrow returned as Holly Holliday, but this time she morphed into McKinley High’s sex-ed teacher. Gwyneth Paltrow was a complete high note, strutting around to songs like Do You Wanna Touch Me, making Mr. Schuester (Matthew Morrison) putty in her hands. She also counseled the sex-starved couple Emma and Carl (John Stamos) on the subject of sex. But all she managed to do was confront Emma about her feelings for Mr. Schuester. Fans got quite the treat when they learned Holly Holliday and Mr. Schuester are giving their relationship a go. Does this mean even more Gwyneth Paltrow on Glee?
The kids of McKinley High talk sex
The kids of McKinley High were pretty mellow on the subject of sex, aside from Santana (Naya Rivera) and Brittany’s (Heather Morris) heart-to-heart in regards to their lady kisses. In a surprise admission, Santana revealed she is terrified of her feelings for Brittany but it’s because she loves her. Unfortunately, Brittany refused to break up with Artie to explore a real relationship with Santana. A door was left open for these two when Brittany assured Santana she would be with her if she and Artie ever broke up.
Rachel (Lea Michele) and Quinn (Dianna Agron) maintained their sexless lives as part of the school’s celibacy club and even managed to wrangle Puck (Mark Salling), Lauren, Artie, Santana and Brittany to the party in the end. One of them let us in on a secret, however. Looks like Quinn is still fooling around with Finn (Cory Monteith).
Kurt (Chris Colfer) finally had a real talk with his father about the importance of safe sex, but it was surprisingly normal aside from the typical feeling of uncomfortableness everyone has when talking to their parents about the dirty deed.
What did you think of Glee’s episode Sexy? Did you think it was subdued compared to their past episodes? Perhaps Glee doesn’t always have to serve us the truth with a sucker punch, or maybe they’re saving the fireworks for the big regionals face-off.
