The trailer for The Smurfs just debuted online. We’ll let you know just exactly how smurfy it is.
The new trailer for The Smurfs just showed up on the net and it’s smurfing smurfy. (Remember, that can mean whatever you want it to. For me, it’s “kinda scary.”) For those of us who played with the little blue guys as kids, seeing them come to life in 2011 is a bit…odd. First of all, aren’t they supposed to be three apples high? These guys seem to be changing height in every shot.
We’ve got Smurfette (and don’t get me started on a society that only has one woman and ninety-nine men…we’ll leave that for another time) pulling a Marilyn Monroe over a heater and a Scottish smurf in a kilt doing the same. “Nothing like a cool breeze through my enchanted forest.” Well, I can’t un-hear that, can I?
Maybe it’s just me, but I’d rather these characters stayed in my childhood. There is something a bit off about making Smurfs all modern and glib and smurfy. (Use whatever word you think fits there.) It’s like turning the Snorks into skate rats.
We’d love to hear what you guys think. Sound off below. The Smurfs opens August 3, 2011 and stars Neil Patrick Harris and Jayma Mays.
