Friends and family are mourning the loss today of Hollywood icon Elizabeth Taylor. The 79-year-old star died of congestive heart failure and was surrounded by her children when she passed.

Celebrities today react to the tragic loss of their friend. “We have just lost a Hollywood giant; more importantly, we have lost an incredible human being,” said Elton John, who worked side-by-side with Taylor as an AIDS activist.
Larry King echoed John’s sentiments, tweeting, “Elizabeth Taylor was a great friend, a great star and one gutsy woman. She was so special. You won’t see the likes of her again. If Elizabeth took on a battle, she took it on 100 percent. She was first major celeb in the AIDS battle and she made it her cause…”
Comedienne Joan Rivers also tweeted about Elizabeth Taylor and her charity work. “Sad to hear of Elizabeth Taylor’s death. She was the 1st major celebrity to join me in the fight against AIDS when it wasn’t a popular cause.”
Barbara Walters talked about the death of her good friend, whom she called “the last of the movie stars” on Good Morning America. “We who were in touch felt that she might make it.”
Kirstie Alley took time from her rehearsals at Dancing With the Stars to tweet her condolences. “Elizabeth…thank u for the lessons u taught me about life..suffering and Joy….you are the BRIGHTEST STAR in the universe..Eternal love.”
