The Black Eyed Peas opening arts academy in Manhattan

The Black Eyed Peas are trying their hand at teaching with a new music academy in Manhattan. What kind of classes are they teaching NYC schoolchildren?

The Black Eyed Peas have conquered the music world — and now they’re helping cultivate the next generation of musicians with their new music school in lower Manhattan.

The Grammy Award-winning group revealed Tuesday that their Peabody Foundation is teaming up with the Adobe Foundation to open the Peapod Adobe Youth Voices Music and Multimedia Academy.

The Adobe Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Adobe Systems, Inc. The maker of Photoshop and Flash has teamed up with the BEP before on music academies in Los Angeles, Oakland and Redwood City, California.

“Our passion for music and media was fueled by many generous people on our road to success,” Will.i.am said. “Expanding the network of Peapod Adobe Youth Voices academies enables us to pay it forward, giving more youth the skills and encouragement they need to realize their dreams.”

Students will be admitted to the Peapod Academy based on recommendations and demonstrated interests in covered arts like graphic design, sound production and editing.

No word on whether Fergie or Will.i.am will teach classes at the academy. Regardless, what a great opportunity for NYC students! We’re thinking about enrolling in an NYC school just so we can try to get in on this.

OK, not really — but we are super jealous!

Would you take a music class from Will.i.am or Fergie?
