Preview: African Cats

Are you a sucker for giant kitties? Yeah, me too. Disneynature has us covered. African Cats premieres on Earth Day this year. Better bring lots of catnip!

I’m one of those people who spends countless hours watching the Discovery channel and comparing my house cats to panthers and lions. Disneynature is clearly aware of my feline fixation. They’re bringing out African Cats, the follow-up to Earth and Oceans this Earth Day.

African Cats follows two cat families through their trials and tribulations in the African savanna. We get to check out the adorable lion cub Mara and her mother, Fang, the king of the pride and Sita, a fearless mother cheetah with five fuzzy babies…you think you ooh and aah over cute cat videos on YouTube? Just watch the trailer and try to keep from melting or running out to your local shelter. (Actually, do go out to your local shelter!)

Adorable animals not enough for you? Well, Disneynature will contribute 20 cents per opening week ticket (April 22 to 28) to the American Wildlife Federation with a minimum pledge of $100,000.

That’s a lot of Friskies, my friends! African Cats opens April 22 and features the narration of Samuel L. Jackson and the theme song sung by Jordin Sparks.
