Glee‘s episode Funeral got us all wondering — whose funeral was it? Read on to find out.
The core of this week’sGleeepisode, Funeral, was the loss of Sue Sylvester’s (Jane Lynch) sister Jean. Of course, it dealt with the tragedy in pure Glee style.
Glee: The loss of Jean
We didn’t have to wait long to find out who met their maker this week. Unfortunately, it was Sue Sylvester’s sister Jean. She dealt with it in true Sue fashion — with sarcasm. First, Sue fired Becky from the cheerleading squad because she reminded her of her sister.
It was up to the New Directions to help her. The idea was to pull together and help her plan the funeral. Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Finn (Cory Monteith) also volunteered to clear out her room at the nursing home. There was just one problem, their new Nationals consultant didn’t want the distraction.
New Directions, meet your new show choir consultant for Nationals — Jesse St. James. Rather than rally around Sue, he felt it was more important to hold reality show-esque auditions to find out who the star would be of their Nationals number.
They all brought it, especially Kurt and Mercedes! He didn’t like anyone, unless it was Rachel — sparking Rachel-gate. Everyone thought he liked her because of their past.

Kurt and Finn helped Sue clean out Jean’s room, but all Sue wanted to do was pitch everything. She admitted she was afraid no one would come pay respects to her sister if the glee club wasn’t there. It was kind of a sad moment to watch.
At the actual funeral, everyone rallied around Sue to make sure Jean had a full house. The glee club put together an entire spread depicting the life of the fallen sister. It was heartbreaking to watch Sue break down during her speech and even more heartbreaking to watch Mr. Schuester (Matthew Morrison) finish the tribute for her — a little piece of Sue was missing.
The New Directions performed Jean’s favorite song, Pure Imagination, from the hit movie Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, while video of Jean played.
After the service, Finn broke up with Quinn. It was the death of two important parts of the show.
We got two different tearjerker moments at the end — a Will and Sue moment of sincerity and Becky being reinstated on the squad. Of course, it was followed up by her announcing she rerouted the Nationals plane to Libya. No fear, Terri made it right with new tickets and the news she was moving to Miami.
In what ended up taking a back story to Jean’s funeral, the person who would be showcased at Nationals was — everyone! They’re going back to their roots and performing original songs together!
