Guest of honor Oprah Winfrey skips the Emmys

Oprah Winfrey skipped the Daytime Emmy Awards yesterday despite being the guest of honor!

Despite no longer having to worry about her show which recently wrapped after 25 years on the air, Oprah Winfrey is a very busy lady — too busy even to attend the Daytime Emmy Awards, where she was specifically being honored with an incredibly prestigious accolade.

Maybe Oprah was busy trying to land that OJ Simpson interview?

Oprah was given the Crystal Pillar Award at the 38th Annual Daytime Emmys for her work in changing the face of daytime television. Unfortunately she may have done too good of a job at that, since traditional daytime fare like soap operas are dropping like flies while being replaced with shows similar to those of Oprah’s proteges Dr. Phil and Dr. Oz.

The award was introduced by a montage of Oprah’s pals heaping praise on the legendary broadcaster, including Dr. Oz, Barbara Walters, Dr. Phil, Gladys Knight, Celine Dion and Ellen DeGeneres.

Despite not being able to collect the award in person, Oprah thanked the Emmy crowd with a pre-taped video clip.

Appearing with her staff at Harpo Studios, Oprah said, “We are sorry we couldn’t be there to celebrate. On behalf of the entire team, we thank you for honoring our show, we thank you for 25 years.”

“This show has served as a platform to enlighten and entertain our millions of viewers… it has been a phenomenon that [none] of us could have imagined in our wildest dreams.”

“None of this would have been possible without the support of the best team in television. Thank you!”

Congratulations Oprah, even if you couldn’t get to the party in person!
