Willie Nelson struck a plea deal last month for a marijuana possession charge, but the judge isn’t having it. She rejected the deal, claiming preferential treatment.
These are low times for Willie Nelson. The plea deal Nelson struck last month for charges stemming from being busted for pot possession is up in smoke.
Judge Becky Dean-Walker told the AP that prosecutor Bramblett, who agreed to let Nelson plead guilty and pay a $500 fine for paraphernalia possession, “doesn’t do that for anybody else.”
What? Special treatment for a celebrity? Noooo.
Apparently, Judge Dean-Walker isn’t having any of that in her courtroom. She said that Nelson should be charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession instead. That means that Nelson is back to facing one year in prison.
It looks like that comment Bramblett made about Willie Nelson singing for his freedom isn’t so funny now. The prosecutor was previously quoted as saying, “You bet your (expletive) I ain’t gonna be mean to Willie Nelson.” Maybe Bramblett was joking — or maybe not — when Bramblett said, “I’m gonna let him plead, pay a small fine and he’s gotta sing Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain with his guitar right there in the courtroom.”
Nelson was arrested for possession in November when his tour bus was stopped by border patrol agents in Texas. They found six ounces of pot on the bus.
