R&B singer R. Kelly had emergency throat surgery but he is optimistic about his recovery.
No voice, no problem for R. Kelly.
The R&B singer tweeted late Wednesday that he will be back following emergency throat surgery. Kelly saw a throat specialist early Tuesday due to throat pain he’d been experiencing for the last few days, and doctors took him to surgery the next day at Northwestern Memorial Hospital to drain an abscess on one of his tonsils.
“I’d like to thank everybody for their love, concern and support,” Kelly tweeted. “I WILL BE BACK!”
Earlier, a representative indicated that Kelly, who had just wrapped up his Love Letter tour, would “be laid up for an indefinite amount of time.”
The throat situation had been festering for a few days.
“I refuse to take another cup of theraflu!” Kelly tweeted last week. “I feel like my throat is coming back. I’ve been in bed sweating like crazy.”
Kelly left the hospital Wednesday night and he’s recuperating at home in Chicago, said his rep Allan Mayer to SheKnows.com, adding that it’s too early to tell when he’ll resume performing.
Now, if only other aspects of Kelly’s life could be treated with a trip to the doctor. Earlier this summer, Kelly was sued by an ex-manager who alleged that Kelly used his commission as hush-up money to keep the singer’s sexual trysts quiet, then came the news that the singer was losing his Chicago mansion.
Call it the summer of discontent for the I Believe I Can Fly singer.
