Nicole Scherzinger: Nothing was handed to me

Nicole Scherzinger has got it all – beauty, brains and a strong work ethic. The new X Factor judge opens up in the September issue of Marie Claire about her roller coaster ride to fame.

Nicole Scherzinger first rose to fame ala her amazing singing and dancing skills with The Pussycat Dolls, then danced her way to the mirror ball trophy in Dancing with the Stars. Now, she’s poised for more fame as the new judge on The X Factor.

Nicole is featured in the September issue of Marie Claire, opening up about her strong work ethic and her new gig on The X Factor.

“I definitely have the eye of the tiger. I’ve fought my way to where I am and will continue to do so. I’m a hard worker — I get it from my family. We only know work. Nothing was handed to us. When I believe in something, I go after it. It’s very hard to tell me ‘no,'” she says.

Her new gig on the reality show The X Factor has not been without controversy. Simon Cowell, who is the producer of the show, initially picked Cheryl Cole to be a judge, along with himself and Paula Abdul. It was rumored that he didn’t feel like American audiences would connect with her, so he gave her the boot and brought Nicole in.

He said that he offered Cole the job, but “when it went public the negotiations fell apart.” Cowell said he felt Cole would be “more comfortable doing the UK show than the American show.”

Unfortunately, Cole didn’t feel the same way and was not happy to be booted from the U.S. version of The X Factor.

“I am sorry for the way it worked out as we were incredibly close. She is still grumpy with me,” Cowell has admitted.

Nicole Scherzinger, however, seems to be taking the whole thing in stride. “I’m the luckiest person to get a front-row ticket to the Simon and Paula show. This whole thing has felt like a roller-coaster ride,” she tells Marie Claire.

The September issue of Marie Claire hits newsstands on Aug. 16th.
