The 2011 MTV Video Music Awards was chock full of news-making moments. Amid all that action, did you catch the new TV spots for Footloose? SheKnows has the new promos, which feature Kenny Wormald, Julianne Hough and Dennis Quaid recreating several iconic moments from the 1984 hit starring Kevin Bacon. The sneak peeks are also spiked with with modern day additions like hot dance moves, an African American castmember and a sweeping skyline.
Amid Beyonce’s baby news, the Hunger Games sneak peak, Lady Gaga’s appearance as Jo Calderone and all the other VMA action, Footloose got to shake its tail feathers with two hot new promos.
The Footloose revamp takes on the beloved ’80s tale of Ren MacCormack (Kenny Wormald), a hip Bostonian with dance moves who experiences some serious culture shock when he hits the small town Bomont and goes up against local reverend Shaw Moore (Dennis Quaid). The reverend has managed to prohibit loud music and dancing, which only makes his wild child Ariel (Julianne Hough) wilder, but Ren is going to do something about all that.
“I saw Footloose in my hometown theater when I was 13-years-old and it rocked my world,” said revamp writer/director Craig Brewer (Hustle and Flow). “It was a teenage rebellion movie that explored the struggles of faith and family in a small town, and it had an awesome soundtrack. I can promise ‘Footloose’ fans that I will be true to the spirit of the original film. But I still gotta put my own Southern grit into it and kick it into 2011. It’s going to be a blast!”
Footloose hits theaters October 14, 2011 and from the looks of the promos below, the 2011 revamp appears to stay true to the original, while adding a few modern day twist, as promised.
