Adele leads American Music Award nominations

Adele is America’s new music sweetheart. The singer received the most nominations for the 2011 American Music Awards with four nods – beating out Katy Perry, Beyonce and Rihanna.

British soul-singer Adele is a force to be reckoned with. On Tuesday, the acclaimed artist was nominated for four American Music Awards, including Album of the Year, Artist of the Year, Adult Contemporary Music (Favorite Artist) and Pop or Rock Music (Favorite Female Artist).

Other notable nominees include Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Beyonce, Rihanna and Chris Brown. Former Destiny’s Child members Kelly Rowland and Beyonce will face off for Best Soul/R&B Music (Favorite Female Artist), while old flames Chris Brown and Rihanna will go head-to-head in the Soul/R&B Album category.

The biggest award of the night is arguably Artist of the Year, which consists of performers from almost every major genre. Adele will go up against Lil Wayne, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift.
