Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides leads the pack in this week’s DVD and BluRay releases, though Cameron Diaz and Selena Gomez are trying to scratch their way to the top of the movie heap.
We’re already into the third week of October — where did the month go? Soon, we’ll be up to our ears in horror movies and Milk Duds, though some could argue that Jack Sparrow’s teeth in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides are pretty horrifying. The Disney tale leads the pack of DVD releases this week, along with a potty-mouthed Cameron Diaz in Bad Teacher and a royal Selena Gomez in Monte Carlo.
The films currently topping everyone’s Redbox hot lists include Bad Teacher, Zookeeper, Bridesmaids, X-Men: First Class,Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Hanna. Surprisingly, Scream 4 dropped down the list; we expect it to make a comeback as Halloween approaches.
Here’s the new additions to movie shelves this week:
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides — Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow is back with a quest to find the elusive Fountain of Youth. Unfortunately, Blackbeard and his daughter (Penelope Cruz) are out to find it too. Cruz was pregnant during filming of the movie, but she didn’t let that stop her from playing a character with a similar background.
“It’s great when you’re playing somebody that is your own nationality to bring into a story like this where even the historic element of it is important. I love that I could use my own accent,” the Spanish Cruz told SheKnows earlier this summer.
Bad Teacher — Cameron Diaz, Jason Segel and Justin Timberlake star in a film about a teacher whose plan to marry rich backfires, leading her back to the job she hates in order to earn enough money to get breast implants. She thinks she’s found her new sugar daddy in new teacher (Timberlake) — but will all end up as she planned?
The movie is hilarious — especially the “jean jam” scene between former real-life couple Timberlake and Diaz.
Monte Carlo — Justin Bieber’s main gal, Selena Gomez, stars in this sweet romantic comedy about a girl who travels to Paris with her two besties (played by Leighton Meester and Katie Cassidy,) but are whisked away to Monte Carlo when she’s mistaken for royalty.
“There are multiple lessons in this film. Obviously the biggest one is figuring out who you are and embracing that part of you — spreading your wings a little bit and exploring yourself and your world,” Gomez told SheKnows before the movie’s release this summer. “I think there’s another message for the family with step-sisters and getting along and how you handle that as a family. There’s romance, every girl is going to love that — falling in love with each of the boys in the film. It’s sweet.”
The film also stars the adorable Cory Monteith from Glee.
