It was just last week that television host Giuliana Rancic made the announcement that she has breast cancer, and she is already back at work.
The E! News host made a personal revelation last Monday on NBC’s Today show, stating that she found out during her third attempt to get pregnant through in-vitro fertilization that she had cancer.
“I have early stages of breast cancer,” she told Today co-host Ann Curry, explaining that during her third round of IVF treatments, her doctor had her get a mammogram, which had detected the cancer.
Rancic underwent a double lumpectomy last Thursday but said she’s still feeling great. Her E! News co-host, Ryan Seacrest, told Rancic on air, “We’ve got to give a round of applause to celebrate the return of Giuliana Rancic, just a week after her surgery,” before Rancic interjected, “You’re going to make me cry.”
She also added, “I’ve got to say, I feel great. My surgery went very well. I still do have a bit of a road ahead of me, but it’s nothing I can’t handle… and it’s going to be good.”
Even though Rancic is battling early stages of her breast cancer, she will still need to undergo radiation treatment sometime next month, she said.
Rancic’s cancer news has also fueled speculation that the in-vitro fertilization treatments she has been undergoing had contributed to her breast cancer, which the host has not confirmed nor denied.
While there has been data that suggests fertility drugs may increase the risk of breast, uterine, and ovarian cancers, experts say there is no clear link between IVF treatment and breast cancer.
