Ivian Sarcos has been crowned Miss World 2011! Just who is the new beauty queen?
The winner of Miss World 2011 is the breathtaking Ivian Sarcos! The 22-year-old, who previously held the title of Miss Venezuela, received her new crown and title on Monday in London.
Ivian Sarcos shed tears in a puffy pink gown as last year’s winner, Alexandria Mills of the U.S., passed the crown to her. An emotional moment for the girl who spent five years of her young life in an orphanage.
The life of the newly crowned Miss World 2011 hasn’t always been glamorous. Ivian Sarcos is one in a family that includes 13 children. She revealed at the pageant that she spent five years in an orphanage run by nuns after losing her parents at age eight. The experience shaped the beauty queen who shared, “My dream was to become a nun.”
While her career ambitions now appear to be on a more glamorous path, Ivian Sarcos hasn’t forgotten her orphanage days.
“Winning means everything to me and I hope to take advantage of being a winner in a productive manner,” she said Monday at the Miss World 2011 pageant. “I’m unbelievably happy to have won and there are some incredible girls. I first and foremost want to help people in need. I would like to help people like me. I am an orphan. I would also like to help the elderly and troubled teenagers. As many people as I can.”
Ivian Sarcos competed against the best and brightest women from 122 countries around the world. Miss Philippines, Gwendoline Ruais, was named the runner-up, while Miss Puerto Rico, Amanda Perez, placed third. The beauty pageant, which began in 1952, was reportedly watched this year by over a billion people world wide.
The new queen’s duties for the coming year include visiting and supporting a range of global charity projects supported by Miss World’s Beauty With A Purpose.
Congratulations to Ivian Sarcos on the Miss World 2011 win!
