Adele is resting and doing well after throat surgery. What’s the prognosis for her voice?
British superstar Adele is doing well after throat surgery, her doctors said Monday night.
“Adele underwent vocal cord microsurgery by Dr. Steven Zeitels to stop recurrent vocal cord hemorrhage (bleeding) from a benign polyp. This condition is typically the result of unstable blood vessels in the vocal cord that can rupture,” the hospital said in a statement.
The “Rolling in the Deep” singer was forced to cancel the rest of her shows and public appearances last week after her diagnosis.
“It is with deep regret that Adele has been forced to cancel her remaining live dates and promotional appearances in 2011. She is to undergo surgery to alleviate the current issues with her throat and a full recovery is expected. As a result, doctors have ordered her to rest her voice and completely recuperate before looking to schedule any work commitments,” her record label said in a statement.
Adele — still riding high from the swift sales of her sophomore effort, 21 — was understandably upset about the development.
“Singing is literally my life, it’s my hobby, my love, my freedom and now my job. I have absolutely no choice but to recuperate properly and fully, or I risk damaging my voice forever,” she wrote on her website.
“I have great confidence in believing you know how much this upsets me, how seriously I take it and how truly devastated and annoyed I am by this,” she continued. “My voice is weak and I need to build it back up. I’m gonna be starting up vocal rehab as soon as [possible], and start building my over all stamina in my voice, body and mind. I will be back and I’m gonna smash the ball out the park once I’m touring again.”
However, she shot down rumors of throat cancer.
“We would like to reiterate that Adele is to undergo surgery for a hemorrhaged vocal chord. All reports regarding any other condition are 100 percent false,” her rep said last week.
Phew! We’re happy Adele’s doing well and cannot wait to hear that amazing voice again — especially since she’s rumored to be the voicing the theme for the next James Bond film, Skyfall.
