Brian Grazer in as Oscar producer

Brian Grazer has stepped in to fill the shoes of Brett Ratner as producer of this year’s Academy Awards broadcast.

It’s been quite a day around Oscar headquarters — first producer Brett Ratner stepped down after a weekend of verbal diarrhea, then host Eddie Murphy bowed out because he didn’t want to work without his Tower Heist creative partner. Now a new producer has stepped in: Brian Grazer.

Grazer, who has produced such blockbusters as Apollo 13 and A Beautiful Mind, and has the craziest man hair in Hollywood, signed on to the awards show earlier today and will work alongside Don Mischer.

“It’s very gratifying to be part of a show that honors excellence in the medium to which I have devoted so much of my career,” said Grazer. “Don is a legend, and I am excited to work with him.”

Academy president Tom Sherak confirmed the news in an official statement. “Brian Grazer is a renowned filmmaker,  who, over the past 25 years, has produced a diverse and extraordinary body of work,” he said. “He will certainly bring his tremendous talent, creativity and relationships to the Oscars.”

“I too am delighted that Brian will join Don in producing the Academy Awards and I am looking forward to our producers delivering the movie event of the year,” added the Academy’s new CEO Dawn Hudson.

Grazer is an Oscar winner himself, taking home the statuette for Best Picture with A Beautiful Mind. He received Best Picture nominations for Apollo 13 and Frost/Nixon, as well as being nominated in the writing category for Splash.
