Kate Middleton isn’t expecting a baby just yet. A royal insider sets the record straight about her peanut paste debacle.
Kate Middleton sparked a flurry of pregnancy rumors this week when she turned down a sample of peanut paste at an official engagement in Denmark.
Apparently, the 29-year-old declined to taste the product — used in aid packages — when she visited a UNICEF distribution center in Copenhagen.
And it’s been reported the Duchess gave hubby Prince William “a knowing look” when she refused the food.
Expectant mothers are advised to avoid peanuts while pregnant or breastfeeding as they are thought to increase the chances of a child developing a peanut allergy.
But according to new reports, this might not be the reason she opted out of the peanut paste. A royal insider tells US Weekly magazine that the Duchess isn’t pregnant — she’s just camera shy and chooses not to be photographed while eating.
“She’s not comfortable eating in front of cameras,” the insider said. “What if she didn’t like it and made a face? That expression would then be on every newspaper.”
A spokesman for the couple tells the magazine that the royal policy is “to never confirm or deny [pregnancy] rumors,” but an insider insists: “If and when there is an announcement to make, it will be made by the palace as soon as it’s safe to.”
While the newlywed couple has been credited with freshening up a rather stale monarchy, they are close to breaking another age-old tradition at the same time. If the Duchess is not pregnant within the next three months, she will be defying 200 years of British tradition.
According to royal biographer Andrew Morton, every wife to an heir of the throne has become pregnant in the first three or four months of their marriage.
