Eddie Murphy is out as host of the Oscars, which now has Ricky Gervais volunteering to host both the Oscars and the Golden Globes!
Love him or hate him, Ricky Gervais had people talking after he poked fun at A-list celebrities as host of the Golden Globes last year, and now the British comedian has volunteered his services again for the Golden Globes — and the Oscars!
The Oscars were left scrambling when Eddie Murphy dropped out as host after producer Brett Ratner resigned. They have signed on Brian Grazer to produce the show, but are still searching for the perfect host — and Ricky Gervais says he will make them a deal.
“I’ll do it,” he told Access Hollywood. “I’ll be in town any way for the [Golden]Globes.”
Gervais hasn’t officially been asked to host the Golden Globes again, but he said he could host both the Golden Globes and the Oscars. “Exactly, two for one offer,” he said, when asked he would kill two birds with one stone. “I can knock off 20 percent. Two for one deal. I’ll just stay up there.”
The Golden Globes air on Jan. 15, 2012 and the Oscars are slated for Feb. 26, 2012.
“They haven’t asked me officially yet [to host the Golden Globes], and I don’t know whether I’d say yes. It’s very tempting,” Ricky said. “It’s tempting [because] for three hours, I’m the most feared man in L.A., so that’s nice.”
He revealed that NBC would like him to host the Golden Globes, but he is not so sure about the association that puts on the event. “I think NBC wants me to do it, but [the] Hollywood Foreign Press have got to want me as well. It’s their event. It’s their party,” he said.
