CBS‘ The Early Show is getting a revamp with the additions of Charlie Rose and Gayle King.
Charlie Rose and Gayle King are looking to put the pep back into our mornings.
A report from The New York Times is saying Charlie Rose and Gayle King are on deck to join CBS’ The Early Show.
The addition of Rose and King is part of the show’s revamp for the new year.
So, what’s the point of the new format?
According to the report, it will rival competitors by reporting “hard news” but also bring a “controversial approach” to things.
Charlie Rose and Gayle King will slip into their roles alongside The Early Show‘s currently assembled team, Erica Hill and Jeff Glor.
Word has it a new set is even being built for the revamp.
According to the report, here’s how it’s going to work: Charlie Rose would take the 7 a.m. bracket with Erica Hill, and Gayle King would take the 8 a.m. bracket.
Whether or not it will get a new name isn’t known at this time. The hope is that by trying something new, rather than imitating other shows, the morning show will have a better ratings score than it has in the past.
The interesting part is that neither King or Rose seem to be that big of draw name-wise — at least in terms of the excitement their names bring to a project.
It’s said they’re on the verge of signing the deal and the official announcement will come next Tuesday in New York.
Currently, Charlie Rose has his own late-night show on PBS, while Gayle King has her own talk show on OWN, the network of her pal Oprah Winfrey.
What do you think of The Early Show shakeup with Gayle King and Charlie Rose? Will it work, or is it doomed to lag behind the competition?
