Live! with Kelly has its first guest co-host: Jerry Seinfeld! The funnyman is one of many celebrities set to fill Regis Philbin’s recently vacated seat.
Live! with Kelly is kicking off with Jerry Seinfeld filling in former co-host Regis Philbin’s seat. The comedian is taking a three-day turn at morning talk show duties next to regular host Kelly Ripa.
There are currently no plans to permanently fill the co-host position Regis Philbin held since the show’s debut in 1983. After Jerry Seinfeld’s guest hosting duties have been fulfilled fans can look forward to visits from Jason Segel, actress Kim Cattrall, Howie Mandel, Naked Chef Jamie Oliver and Miss Piggy.
The transition from Regis Philbin to a series of guest co-hosts has been dubbed “Operation Smooth Transition” by Jerry Seinfeld, who recently visitedThe Tonight Show.
“He didn’t know when to end the show,” the comedian shared while speaking of Regis Philbin. “The first time I had dinner with him like 10 years ago, he said, ‘How many years do I have to do this? When is it going to be over?’ And I told him never.” He added jokingly, “These are Pope jobs.”
During his stint on Live! with Kelly viewers might find out more about Jerry Seinfeld’s new dog, Jose Reyes. Yes, the comedian (a huge New York Mets fan) named his dog after the team’s outgoing shortstop.
Of his dog’s unusual moniker, the 57-year-old explained to David Letterman last week:
“You want to know why the dog is named Jose? …The dog is named Jose because I feel like we may lose Jose Reyes, and we’re trying to keep a Jose. Because I’m a Met fan. It’s actually my wife’s idea, which is why I love my wife — she comes up with ideas like this. That’s a marriage right there, a wife that says, ‘Let’s name a dog after the Mets’ outgoing shortstop.’ That keeps the love alive.”
Tune in to see if Kelly Ripa can get to the bottom of this when Jerry Seinfeld appears as her Live! with Kelly co-host!
