What’s worse than being picked on in high school? I Hate My Teenage Daughter answers that question on Wednesday when the network that brought us family comedies Raising Hope and American Dad takes on the mother-daughter relationship.
Emmy-winner Jaime Pressly (My Name Is Earl) and Tony-winner Katie Finneran (Wonderfalls) team up as BFFs in the new Fox sitcom, I Hate My Teenage Daughter. As former high school losers, these two single moms were hoping their daughters would one day get to sit with the cool kids at lunch. Unfortunately, they’re getting their wish… and it’s not pretty.
The line between cool kid and mean girl is slim, and it seems to be getting even thinner for pals Annie Watson (Pressly) and Nikki Miller (Finneran), who have tried to give their daughters a better chance at fitting in and building self-esteem than they had.
Annie came of age in an ultra-strict, uber-religious family and as you hear in the New Rules clip below, she had to survive high school with no TV, no freedom and a Little House on the Prairie wardrobe. As a mom, she overcompensated with Sophie (Kristi Lauren), letting her have and do whatever she wants.
Ugly duckling Nikki (Finneran), who’s long since dropped the weight and turned into a Southern swan, also tries to give her daughter, Mackenzie (Aisha Dee), every opportunity and advantage.
The result of all this loving care?
I Hate My Teenage Daughter Sneak Peek: The Moms
As you can see in this first I Hate My Teenage Daughter clip, Annie and Nikki have spawned two torturous teens who make them feel like they’re high school losers all over again.
t
Sophie and Mackenzie were always a bit spoiled, but now that they’re high schoolers, their mean-girl antics are crossing the line.
I Hate My Teenage Daughter Sneak Peek: The Dads
The dads are also in the picture on I Hate My Teenage Daughter, but as you can see in these next two clips, they often just complicate things.
t
The breakup is still fresh for Nikki and her ex Gary (Chad L. Coleman), which adds an extra challenge to dealing with Mackenzie, while Annie’s well-intentioned ex Matt (Eric Sheffer Stevens) doesn’t have much of a clue about fatherhood.
With two single moms on the scene, the first season of I Hate My Teenage Daughter also promises guest stints from hunky soap alums like Kelly Ripa‘s hubby Mark Consuelos, Brody Hutzler (Ringer) and Ryan McPartlin (Chuck).
I Hate My Teenage Daughter Sneak Peek: New Rules
Out of everyone in the group, it’s Matt’s brother Jack (Kevin Rahm) who seems to have the best handle on how to deal with the girls, which is as annoying to Annie as her feelings for him.
t
As you can see in the clip above, Matt helps Annie and Nikki realize it’s time to not only change the rules, but to actually start enforcing them. The moms take charge and land on one fantastic form of punishment when the girls cross the line yet again.
You can see how that goes when I Hate My Teenage Daughter premieres on Fox Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 9:30 p.m., between New Girl and Raising Hope.
