The arrival of Bella’s Breaking Dawn wedding gown has brought a new kind of consumer to bridal retailer Alfred Angelo: The irrational Twihard. And you thought Bridezillas were a problem. Employees of the chain say fans of the hit film franchise have been coming in by the dozens, pretending to be engaged in hopes of trying on copies of the wedding dress.
Need more evidence that some Twilight fanatics are simply insane? Just feast your eyes on Exhibit A: Bella’s replica wedding gowns.
Word on the Curb has it that Twihards are flocking to bridal boutiques in droves, pretending to be engaged. It’s all so they can try on replicas of the Carolina Herrera-designed wedding gown that Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) wears in Breaking Dawn — Part 1.
Workers at bridal chain Alfred Angelo, where the faux gowns are on sale exclusively, tell TMZ that its stores have been flooded with so many “screaming fans” of The Twilight Saga that it’s becoming extremely difficult to conduct business. Oh Mylanta. At this rate, in a couple of weeks we’ll be hearing reports from maternity ward doctors and nurses about pregnant Twihards trying to give Breaking Dawn‘s infamous vampire C-section a go.
Alfred Angelo worked with Carolina to create an official, licensed and accurate copy of the button-down satin gown that Bella wore during her low-key nuptials with Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) in the hit movie. The replicas, priced at approximately $800, caused a stir in the Twilight-sphere when they arrived on racks last week. The copies are pretty spot-on to Herrera’s original design, complete with the long sleeves, plunging V-neck back, lace patterns and the button detail that snakes from the neck to the long, flowing train.
Twilight Breaking Dawn wedding dress: Disappointing? >>
Over her 30 years in fashion, Herrera, 72, has dressed celebs from Oprah Winfrey to Blake Lively. The label was also the bridal designer of choice for actresses Renee Zellweger and Christina Hendricks. For Bella’s original dress design, Herrera says she tried to capture “the magic and the moment that is the wedding and also about her [Bella’s] personality, which is very important in a wedding gown.”
“She is this very innocent girl that is believing in her first true love and there is romance and there is fantasy and mystery. I took all that into consideration,” the style maven explains.
