Look out Dolly Parton, ’cause Queen Latifah ain’t got your back in the new musical comedy about joining voices even when you think your partner is a diva.

Joyful Noise is a story of faith, healing and beautiful vocal chords, but it’s also about two prima donnas who think the world revolves around them. That’s our kind of movie!
Country music singer Dolly Parton plays G.G. Sparrow, a spunky choir maven who thinks singing with guts is the best way to praise the lord. Unfortunately, her new choir director, the more level-headed Vi Rose Hill, played by Queen Latifah, thinks tradition is the only way to get the message across.
When their southern choir receives the chance to compete in the national choir competition — which would bring fame, fortune and lifted spirits to the local townspeople — these two ladies can only agree on one thing. They’ve got to be number one, no matter what it takes.
Looks like someone’s gonna have to learn how to work together. When G.G.’s grandson falls for Vi’s daughter, things get messy. With the help of friends, family and neighbors, the question remains whether these two can figure out a way to join forces and make it work, no matter how tough it is.
In this exclusive clip, G.G. goes to the restaurant where Vi works to try to convince her that going big is the only way they can win this competition. It’s clear that each of these strong, opinioned women has a mind of her own. We’re assuming that means there’s only one solution to this problem… a good old-fashioned cat fight?
Either that, or they’ll have to sing it out.
Supporting cast includes Keke Palmer from Akeelah and the Bee, Courtney B. Vance from Final Destination and stage actor Jeremy Jordan from the Broadway musical Bonnie & Clyde.
Joyful Noise releases in theaters Jan. 13.
