It’s one of Animal Planet’s highest rated shows, so it’s no wonder Whale Wars was renewed for a fifth season.
Captain Paul Watson will return to lead his Sea Shepherds through another season of whale defense campaigning. That’s right, Whale Wars has been renewed.
Animal Planet has decided to march on with a fifth season of Whale Wars, with the core focus of the new season being captain Watson and the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society’s “Operation Divine Wind” campaign.

According to a report via TheWrap, Watson, armed with 100 volunteers, his crew and three boats (Steve Irwin, Bob Barker and Brigitte Bardot), will go head-to-head with the Institute of Cetacean Research.
The Institute of Cetacean Research is backed by the Japanese government in regards to whale harpooning and processing, something the Sea Shepherds believe violates “agreements that ban whaling in international waters.”

This is not the first time the ICR and Watson’s gang have gone up against each other. Their issues were documented throughout season four.
The crew of Whale Wars knows what it’s up against, but it’s a risk they’re all willing to take in order to save the beautiful creatures of the sea.
Paul Watson said on the Animal Planet website when talking about another campaign: “In order to save the whales, people have to be willing to risk their lives.”
He added when a report asked about not being able stop whaling, “We can’t stop whaling? That’s what they once said about slavery, but it was stopped. So yes, we can stop whaling.”
