Planning to party hardy on New Year’s Eve? Gwyneth Paltrow is coming to the hangover rescue with tips and tricks to ease your pain.
Gwyneth Paltrow is typically an advocate of healthy living and clean eating — but even she knows what it’s like to have an epic hangover. The Goop newsletter creator is here with tips and remedies just in time for New Year’s Eve festivities.
While much of the hangover advice Gwyneth Paltrow shares from experts is of your average fare (stay hydrated, make sure to eat some solid food including healthy proteins, try not to drink to excess) there are a few unique solutions for the morning after contained within the latestGoop letter.
In a brief introduction to her list of hangover cures, the actress writes, “We all know what happens on NYE, so here is our best to help you prepare for the day after…”
Hydrotherapy at home
Though Gwyneth Paltrow prefers the spa version of hydrotherapy, you can create the experience of hot and cold torture in your own home. She writes, “Just draw a bath that is as hot as you can handle it and mix in some Epsom Salts and Baking Soda. Soak for twenty minutes and then pop into a freezing cold shower for one minute. Get back in the hot bath and stay until you’re warmed up. Then get back in the shower for one more minute.”
Beg for Mercy
“Full disclosure, this stuff is so good that I went ahead and invested in the company,” Gwyneth Paltrow writes of this product. “Mercy is a drink that is almost like a health elixir — packed with amino acids, vitamins, minerals and herbs that protect your system against the inevitable hangover and that flush you can get from drinking. You can drink it alone or mix it with alcohol to create a hangover preventing cocktail. I also drink one if I’m just feeling tired to give my system a boost.”
Ask the Pharmacist
No Mercy on-hand? Gwyneth Paltrow did a little leg work researching alternative treatments. “We went to Boots, one of the main pharmacies here in London and the pharmacist recommended Alka-Seltzer, which is Aspirin-based, and Resolve, which is paracetamol-based (if you have asthma, stick with Resolve) to settle your stomach and get rid of that headache,” she explains. “He also recommended Milk Thistle capsules (also available as drops), which you should take before drinking to prepare your liver for a heavy night.”
Hair of the Dog
“Perhaps the least healthy choice, but sometimes unavoidable — at times, just a little of last night’s poison does the trick.” Gwyneth Paltrow recommends the classic Bloody Mary, or the Mexican version known as the Sangrita. Nothing cures nausea like a tablespoon of clam juice, apparently!
Here’s hoping Gwyneth Paltrow’s hangover cures do a body good!
