Katy Perry breaks her silence: I speak for myself

Katy Perry has broken her two-week silence on her pending divorce from Russell Brand and she used the occasion to totally shut down her family. Read on to find out what she had to say.

After two weeks of complete silence, Katy Perry has finally made a statement of sorts regarding her impending divorce from Russell Brand.

Brand officially announced the divorce himself — and filed the paperwork — but up until Saturday Perry was keeping a low profile. All it took to get the gal talking was her own parents using her pain for their gain.

The “Not Like the Movies” singer wrote to fans on Twitter thanking them for their support during this difficult time — and taking her family to task for running their mouths.

“I am so grateful for all the love and support I’ve had from people around the world,” Perry tweeted. “You guys have made my heart happy again.”

She continued, “Concerning the gossip, I want to be clear that NO ONE speaks for me. Not a blog, magazine, ‘close sources’ or my family.”

Perry’s parents, who run an evangelical Christian ministry, used the news of their daughter’s divorce as fodder for the pulpit.

“I’m sure that Katy’s trending on the internet was to get you here to church tonight,” Mary Hudson said during a recent service.

“I mean all over the world, who knows how God is bringing them in? The most important thing is you are here and God wants to put the fire in you in 2012,” good ol’ mom continued.

Perry’s father Keith Hudson added, “I love my daughter and I will always love her. Stop being judgmental and critical. Do not close the doors to your loved ones, especially your children. Just because they do not like what you do or what you are, they are still praying that you stay in the race. They are counting on you. I believe in God, for every one of my children.”

Katy Perry and Russell Brand wed in October 2011. They have no children.
