PETA is pushing actress Rachel McAdams to go back to her vegetarian lifestyle. How are they trying to sway her?
PETA normally gives not-so-nice gifts to celebrities who wear fur or eat meat — just ask Kim Kardashian and Janet Jackson. However, they’re being nice to actress Rachel McAdams to help lure her back to a life of vegetarianism.
The Notebook actress stopped her meat-free ways after her health suffered.
“I was [a vegetarian] once, but it made me very tired. I just ate pasta — I was the most unhealthy vegetarian ever!” The Vow actress told Glamour in the February issue. “I’d like to try it again now that I know about quinoa and bulgur. I think I’d be better the second time around.”
PETA wants to push that along by sending her a care package containing the cruelty-free cookbooks, The Conscious Cook and The Kind Diet, along with “a vegetarian starter kit and other fun goodies.”
“I hope it can be a nice reintroduction for her to do veggie the right way,” a PETA rep told WENN.
The animal rights crusaders might want to consider sending a care package to Angelina Jolie, too. The actress now eats red meat after she claimed that her vegan lifestyle ruined her health.

“I joke that a big juicy steak is my beauty secret,” Jolie joked in 2010. “But seriously, I love red meat. I was a vegan for a long time, and it nearly killed me. I found I was not getting enough nutrition.”
Sounds similar to McAdams’ problem. However, doctors and vegan enthusiasts say that it’s quite possible to live a healthy vegan life.
“The real truth is that a total plant-based, or vegan, diet has been shown in peer-reviewed research to be the most effective method of not only preventing, but also reversing the chronic diseases that are killing 75 percent of Americans every year,” Stuart Seale M.D told the website Basil and Spice.
“Animal foods are deficient in carbohydrates, micronutrients and antioxidants, as well as devoid of fiber and phytochemicals. For anyone who chooses to follow a well-balanced vegan diet, his or her health will certainly benefit from the decision.”
