On Wednesday, The Material Girl announced that she will call her upcoming studio album M.D.N.A. — an acronym for Madonna.
Madonna’s M.D.N.A. created a frenzy across the Twitterverse on Wednesday. The Queen of Pop sent fans into a Twitter tizzy after revealing that her hotly-awaited 12th studio album will be called M.D.N.A. (an acronym for Madonna).
The “Material Girl” legend was being interviewed for an episode of Britain’s The Graham Norton Show when she let the new title slip. According to Madge, she settled on the M.D.N.A. moniker because she is “currently into initials.”
The four letters instantly started a trend on Twitter, with music fans speculating as to whether it did stand for a shortened version of the star’s name or whether it actually had a more hidden (read: sinister) meaning: Think MDMA, as in the club drug, Ecstasy.
An exact release date has not been announced, but the disc is expected to arrive in late March.
“It’s soon — it depends how quickly people hack into my server and leak it. Can people wait? It’s terrible,” Madonna cracked in a not-so-thinly-veiled reference to a real-life drama.

The Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Famer, 53, is hot on the trail of sneaky staff members who have been selling music, vids and un-photoshopped snapshots of the star behind her back, according to recent reports. Federal investigators are on the hunt for the culprits behind illegal Madonna leaks dating back to 2010.
“There’s a much bigger picture. The source of these leaks come[s] from within Madonna’s camp. Single tracks have been exchanging hands for well over $1,000. Hundreds of hours of Madonna footage have been obtained illegally for tens of thousands of dollars,” one insider told Britain’s The Sun this week.
Madge will perform her new single, “Give Me All Your Love,” which features M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj, at Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis on Feb. 5. The single will impact the airwaves on Feb. 7.
Madonna’s last album, Hard Candy, was released in 2008.
