The Artist is one step closer to the Oscars. Tuesday morning, The British Academy of Film and Television Arts unveiled their nominees for the 2012 BAFTAs and The Artist came out on top.
The Artist can’t be stopped. After winning three Golden Globes — including Best Picture, Comedy or Musical — the French film is tackling the UK. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (their equivalent to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences) has announced their nominees for this year’s BAFTA awards.
The Artist leads the pack with 12 nominations, including Best Film, Leading Actor, Leading Actress and Director. But the British thriller Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, is nipping at its heels with 11 nominations, including Best Film and Leading Actor for Gary Oldman.
Unfortunately, Tinker Tailor has been ignored by most awards shows, including the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild. But it’s finally getting some love on its home turf. The Artist is its biggest competition, so in order to win it has take down that handsome Frenchman and his cute dog.
