You know you’re famous when you get a birthday card from Barack Obama. Just ask Zooey Deschanel!
If Zooey Deschanel ever needs to be reminded of just how famous she is, all she has to do is take a look at her personalized birthday letter from the leader of the free world — which is now sitting atop her bureau.
The newly-single New Girl actress received a very special b-day message from U.S. President Barack Obama when she turned 32 earlier this month. Mr. President took a little time away from the Oval Office to wish Deschanel a happy birthday in prose.
He also thanked the Golden Globe-nominated funny gal for her partnership with the White House on a positive initiative that encourages young women to make an impact in their communities.
An excited Zooey tweeted a photo of the letter (Way to rub it in, girl…), which reads:
“Michelle and I send our warmest wishes for a happy birthday. As you celebrate this special occasion with your family and friends, please know I am grateful for all you have done to encourage and support young women who are making a difference across our country. I hope your day is filled with love and laughter and I wish you all the best for good health and happiness in the year ahead.”
Zooey shares her Jan. 9 birthday with First Lady Michelle Obama. And the brunette was a bit disappointed that the President opted to attend his wife’s birthday party instead of hers.
“It’s okay. I get it. I would go to Michelle Obama’s birthday instead of mine, too,” Deschanel joked.
Gross! Bullies spit in Zooey Deschanel’s face >>
She might be Hollywood’s indie darling, but Zooey wasn’t always the pretty, presidentially-popular girl gracing our TV screen each week. The kooky actress opened up about being bullied as a teenager between the covers of the February issue of Allure magazine.
“Girls spit in my face. People were so mean to me. I’d cry every day,” Zooey recently recalled of her days as an awkward middle schooler.
Her luck didn’t change once she went off to college.
“I went to Northwestern because I had gone to a really non-traditional high school. I was like ‘It’d be cool to have a traditional college experience…’ Then I was like, ‘Oh, but none of these people understand what’s cool about me. My specialness is not appreciated in this place.'”
It looks like Zooey’s having the last laugh. Take that, bullies.
